“You mean you don’t eat meat at all?” Ellen asked. “Is that why when you were a frog you wouldn’t eat the meat loaf?”

“Yes.” Trudy sucked the piece of berry. “Some people say that’s what’s the matter with my magic. But I can’t help it. I like to play with toads and frogs, so of course I can’t eat them.” She smiled. “Anyway, if I hadn’t been turned into a frog myself, I never would have met you two.”

She looked at Ellen and Ben. “I never really had such good friends before. I was lonely after the Head Witch expelled me from the coven. But I don’t mind it so much anymore. If the sun weren’t so hot on my head, I might not even miss my hat.”
